‘MacGaiters’ from The Macgaiter Company Scotland are becoming increasingly seen as the best available. Made from 3.5mm Neoprene with strong Velcro fasteners at the rear they’re extremely robust and comfortable to wear. Also, not only do they protect from the elements but people with sporting and muscular injuries can benefit from the support they offer.

Neoprene is an obvious choice of material for Gaiters because it’s flexible yet gives enough support and though often only water resistant, MacGaiters are hailed by many who know and use them to be completely waterproof. Another trait of Neoprene worth mentioning is that it stands up well to damage caused by flexing and twisting. For an outer garment that’s designed to be worn from the top of the foot to just below the knee this is ideal.

Due to Gaiters having to give a comfortable yet relatively ‘tight’ fit they come in sizes S to XXL. Therefore despite the slight stretch of the material, the size of Gaiter purchased/needed is dictated by your calf size at the thickest point in diameter. If your calf width is 14.75” then this equates to Small. 15.5” Medium, 17” Large, 18.5” XL and 21” in diameter XXL. Depending on size, the height of the gaiters only varies by a few inches throughout the range from 16.5” to 18”. Available in a variety of colours the ones most popular with hunters are Seal Brown, Mountain Green or Black.
