The 5.11 Tactical Trainer Mid 2.0, which is styled as a sports trainer, yet is suitable for use across a wide range of uses from general fitness training footwear through trail walking to everyday outdoor wear.
Comfortable and Lightweight
Extremely comfortable straight out of the box, these trainers have an upper that is constructed out of a combination waterproof suede/breathable “Air Mesh” and a tight closed mesh for light weight, breathability and support. The toe and heel have abrasion resistant overlays while generous padding around the ankle gives great comfort levels.
The lacing system runs over a padded, bellows type tongue and incorporates composite eyelets webbing, ‘ghillies’ loops and a tonguepositioning loop, while extending all the way to the toe to allow a custom fit. The laces themselves are an unusual ‘string of sausages’ design that helps ensure they do not slip or come untied. At the back of the boots cuff there is a pull loop that is held flat by a shock cord keeper so that the trainers keep a flat and sleek profile.
The trainers incorporate a waterproof breathable membrane to give a comfortable waterproof performance and have an antibacterial and wicking lining to keep feet dryer and healthier. Inside the trainers there is a removable contoured ortholite footbed for support and comfort.
The sole of the trainers is lasted on a curve for a natural foot action and comprises a lugged rubber outer-sole for support and grip, which extends at heel and toe to give abrasion resistant “bumpers”, a compression-moulded EVA midsole for cushioning and shock absorption and a TPU external ankle stabiliser for extra support.
Built on a hiking boot last with a good volume around the toes and a secure fit around the arch and ankle, these trainers are comfortable across a wide range of activities and I have used them in situations ranging from hours of road and pavement bashing to tracking through the woods and fields – all in total comfort!
I find the 5.11 Tactical Trainer Mid 2.0 (despite the mouthful of a name) to be a great example of footwear that is well up to trail walking and everyday wear – even in some pretty wet weather.
Available in Black or Anthracite in US sizes 4-15 with half sizes from 6-12, these comfortable, stylish, lightweight and very practical trainers seem more like lightweight hiking boots in performance, and cost around £125.
