Recently, I was privileged to test several garments from the Pentagon range of outdoor wear, a highly acclaimed company established in 1991, and now a well-known manufacturer of top-quality outdoor and military clothing and equipment. Renowned for the use of technologically advanced fabrics and accessories, it offers a wide spectrum of products, including a comprehensive range of outdoor wear designed for urban use, undercover operators, and everyone who pursues an active lifestyle. An impressive pedigree, so let’s check out what the Pentagon Achilles XTR 6” Tactical Boots have to offer.
The Achilles GTX are all-purpose tactical footwear suitable for rapid response situations, as well as various outdoor activities such as hiking, airsoft, paintballing, and hunting. A very fitting description due to the build, with the upper made of high-density Nubuck leather, with 1200D nylon mesh fabric for extra breathability.
These very well-designed mid-height (6” high) boots sit above the ankle and have a Hydroguard membrane to ensure they’re 100% waterproof. They also boast nylon pull loops on the back and tongue, and the padded collar, tongue, and ankle give optimum support and added comfort. The build leading up to the lower rand consists of a strong, rubberised, and strengthened black toe cap and heel support.
The boots utilise an EVA midsole. This innovative energy-absorbing material stiffens on impact but flexes when protection is not required, therefore providing the wearer with safety and comfort. Interestingly, the rand is strong but surprisingly forgiving and allows a high level of flex as you walk.
The high-traction rubber outsole uses multi-directional lugs to provide maximum grip and excellent traction on a variety of terrain. They also feature a ‘Toe-off zone’ for added grip when pushing off during the gait cycle, plus a ‘Brake zone’ at the heel for added downhill grip. These are situated on what is commonly referred to respectively as the toe and heel rise.
The lacing system consists of hooks, four pairs of nylon webbing loops, one pair of metal hasps, and at the very top, a pair of metal eyelets. When drawn together, they pull the boot snug to the foot and the design is such that it also uses a centrally located tongue loop to prevent slouching or drifting. Another important feature of any boot in this area are the laces. Good to say the Achilles uses very strong and durable 6mm oval laces.
The Achilles XTR 6” Nubuck Boots from Pentagon are incredibly sturdy and comfortable. The extremely durable and lightweight military-style boots have a very modern and stylish design, which coupled with the long-lasting construction, enables them to cope with virtually any weather condition or hunting situation. The rubber outsole has a very well-configured lug system that is easy to clean and equally effective for when you’ve got boots on the ground.
