I have a soft spot for 5.11 clothing, especially their shirts and trousers, as I find the fit suits me well, their ‘build quality’ is superb and the features useful and practical, without looking too military. The 5.11 Flannel Shirt exemplifies these qualities and is equally at home in the woods and high street.
Made from a 153g/m² 100% brushed cotton twill and coming in a wide range of plaid patterns, the Covert Shirt-Flannel blends practicality, comfort and casual style with durability to make a great outdoor activity wear garment. The shirt features strongly sewn seams and bar tacking of stress points for durability, a double yoke, ‘stand and fall’ collar, twin position buttoned cuffs, buttoned cuff placket, twin chest pockets with asymmetrical pocket flaps, Velcro-closed, patented hidden document pockets on the chest, and a fully opening front.
The inside yoke, within the collar stand and the internal ‘bags’ of the hidden document pockets (which cover the entire chest area) are made from a strong mesh fabric for reduced weight and bulk and although they look like buttons – even down to having button hole stitching – the pocket fasteners and front fasteners are actually press studs allowing quick access to inner layers.
Designed to be worn outside or tucked into your trousers, this stylish, yet practical, durable, versatile and very comfortable shirt, comes in sizes S-XXL, in Storm, Volcanic, Ox Blood, Valiant, Fig and Sapphire plaid patterns (the review item features the ‘Storm’ plaid), makes a great shirt for cooler weather, and costs around £60.
