Jack Pyke Galbraith Smock

Jack Pyke Galbraith Smock

Jack Pyke has various products in their line-up for the outdoor sportsman, and their new Galbraith Smock is one such item that’s a serious asset to any wardrobe. The design sees an all-in-one garment with no main opening at the front. Instead, it pulls on over the head, and the result is an incredibly cosy piece of kit, guaranteed to keep the wearer super snug and warm, even when caught in the worst kind of weather!

Head over

The Smock is made from brushed tricot material, which has what Jack Pyke term a laminated membrane build. The inside has a fine netting mesh liner, and with a baffled neck zip tucked away under a large Velcrofastened flap, it’s obvious that plenty of attention has been paid to the finer detail. These smocks are available in three colours- Forest Brown Camo, Brown, or the Moss Green that I had for review. It’s available in a good variety of sizes too, so most are catered for.

All importantly, unlike many outdoor coats, the Smock comes with a proper strong hood, which is both adjustable via the spring-loaded toggles, and also removable. Made from the same super soft, yet waterproof material, it’s no flimsy add-on; rather a vital component, there to do a job when needed. If you know the rain is holding off, and you don’t want the hassle of a hood, then it just unzips from the main coat.

Pockets aplenty

Out for a day’s sport or adventure, and storage can be useful, so Jack Pyke feature that large front pocket, which can hold a surprising amount of odds and ends. It comes with zip fastening, but also gets the Velcro down over-flap, for total weather protection. There are two lower angled hand pockets, again with zips, and the inner sleeves are elasticated for added comfort and insulation. A drawstring waist completes the specification, making the Galbraith properly windproof. As mentioned, that snug, super soft material is also 100 % waterproof and specified as breathable too. But if like me, you get hot quite easily, then this Smock isn’t for use on mild days, more a technical garment to wear against properly nasty weather.

Impressively light, yet super snug, sums it up nicely; so all in all, a highly practical piece of outdoor clothing, to have in the car for those days when the weather is doing its best to ruin the fun.
