Jack Pyke’s outdoor clothing list is a long and comprehensive one that as expected includes dedicated wet weather gear. Considering what is already available, they’ve certainly got the knack of producing lightweight rainwear and their latest release bears fitting testament to that.
As with all quality all-weather outdoor jackets, the Pro-Lite uses a 3-layer build. In this case, it has an outer 100% Polyester, 4-way stretch with TPU membrane and a super light mesh lining. These materials each give and enable the jacket to have specific attributes. The 100% polyester outer provides initial protection from the elements, is stylish and soft to the touch. Also, it’s lightweight very resilient and can withstand a good deal of wear and tear while also holding its shape without shrinking after washing.
TPU is a thermoplastic polyurethane membrane which is bonded to the outer polyester textile. This allows the jacket to maintain its flexibility while remaining durable yet becoming fully waterproof. Both outer layers are bound to the mesh lining which increases the breathability of the fabric, adds comfort, and protects the membrane.
The Jacket is rated ‘Waterproof 10,000mm’ and Breathable 5,000g/m2 24hr. In plain speak, this means it’s highly waterproof to British standards and will withstand downpours plus heavy snow. The second number, following the water resistance rating, is the breathability rating expressed in grams. This represents how much water vapour can move through one square meter of fabric, from inside to out, in a 24-hour period.
In real-time usage, this means it’s in-keeping with jackets that will be used for active pursuits. The overall build, particularly the face fabric also enables it to be highly windproof.
The Jack Pyke Pro-Lite Hunters Jacket boasts a 3-way toggle adjustable hood, aided by the addition of extended, opposing side panels that provide further protection for the lower face. It also features a very high stand-up collar and for ease of temperature control, it has a full-length front zip with a double puller. This is covered by a storm flap with Velcro and press stud fastening.
The jacket also boasts an adjustable lower hem with elasticated drawcord. The arms have large adjustable cuff straps with Velcro fastening and there are strengthening panels at the top rear and elbows.
Storage is catered for by two zipped lower pockets with covers and two zipped internal pockets, which both have larger, opentop, dual compartment pockets set behind them.
The Jack Pyke Pro-Lite Hunters Jacket is not only weatherproof but also combines versatility with style. It’s extremely lightweight, waterproof, breathable and windproof. It is very comfortable to wear due to the lining plus 4-way stretch capability. It’s also very packable so can easily be stowed for the times it will be needed.
