Some readers might presume that I wear camo in bed as I test and use it a lot! But there’s a time for everything, and even I’ve been known to don more traditional clothing when required. LR Active’s Gamekeeper range is traditional and stylish too and consists of trousers, polar fleece and shotgun-styled waistcoat. It was obvious the clothing wasn’t going to disappoint as to quality, features and price.
Trousers are a 6-pocket build (two front, two side, two back) with added suede trim on all flaps, which use press studs. They’re manufactured on a 3-layer build for maximum comfort and protection. The outer is a tough, brushed polyester twill, next the Breathex waterproof/ and breathable membrane. The third is a 65% polyester and 35% cotton mix lining for comfort. Like all the garments they’re generously cut for ease of movement. Tests showed the build really does what it says on the tin…
Thick ‘n’ Warm
Rated at 350-grams the Polar Fleece features a full length zip with a medium stand up collar with extra padding and suede shoulder patches. The sleeves have identical elbow patches and are double hemmed at the wrists. The two side hand warmer pockets are deep and roomy whilst there’s a vertical zip fastening pocket middle right. This is positioned more towards the centre, so if worn alone as an outer layer it won’t affect shouldering a gun. Useful too is the draw cord at the hem. The cut is just right and not too long to be restrictive.
The waistcoat is manufactured from 35% cotton & 65% polyester and treated with Teflon to make it shower proof. It fastens by a zip with studded over flap. There are also lots of pockets – two large, lower front cargos with stud/flap with hand warmer slots behind. On either side of these are a pair of elasticated, open topped, ‘drop in’ pouches and above the left one is a handy D-ring. At the back is a washable, PVC-lined game pocket.
They have even thought about ready use shotgun ammo, as either side of the zip are seven-round shell loops. This gives you 14-shells and easy to hand too. Large suede patches are found on the shoulders. On the inside lower left is a Velcro flapped mobile pocket and on the opposite side a 6 ¼” X 5 ½” zipper, which is ideal for your SGC.
The ethos behind all clothing that LR Active Ltd market is refreshing and very customer oriented. Simply put; quality, practicality and innovation is high, but prices are kept low. This showed in their TreeDeep range of camo I tested, and in this Gamekeeper range, it just doubles my views that this company offer great products for a down to earth price tag.
