I have recently discovered Darn Tough socks, made in Vermont and, although made from Merino wool, coming with a lifetime guarantee and a simple “if our socks aren’t the most comfortable and durable socks you’ve ever owned, return them for your money back” statement of faith in their product from the company president. I have been trying out the Scent-Lok Boot Socks Full Cushion style 1464 from the Men’s Hunting collection in Darn Tough’s wide range of sock styles, and found that I will not have to send them back as, yes, they seem to be among the most comfortable and durable socks I have ever owned!
Coming with full, yet simple, care instructions, these socks are knitted from a fine gauge Merino wool that is naturally odour-inhibiting, highly breathable and itch-free, and is shrink-treated for a consistent fit. In the sole, heel and toe a four-ply nylon is added to the mix for abrasion-resistance, while Lycra Spandex is added mid foot and cuff for slip resistance. The whole foot has loop stitch construction for cushioning, a deep heel pocket helps avoid slippage, and a fine toe seam avoids hot spots. The leg of the sock is rib-knitted, but still with a cushioned interior, while the cuff is plain rib knitted. The overall mix of fibres in the sock is 69% Merino wool, 27% nylon, 4% Lycra Spandex, and even after multiple continuous days of wearing the socks, they still felt comfortable and smelled sweet. Available in sizes M, L and XL (to fit sizes 7-13.5 UK) in Charcoal only, the Scent- Lok Boot Sock Full Cushion cost around £25.00 and live up to the maker’s claims!
