5.11 Apex Trousers

The latest trousers from 5.11 are the ‘Apex Pant’, which they are hailing as “the next generation cargo pant”. Made from 5.11’s 7.2oz (193gm) ‘Flex-Tac’ mechanical stretch 69%/31% polyester cotton canvas with extra stretch performance panels in the waistband and the front hip area, the Apex trousers have a very casual look, but offer superior freedom of movement, which is enhanced by a gusseted crotch and articulated cut knees.
The trousers have loads of pocket space – two front ‘bag’ pockets with reinforced pocket edges to take a knife or torch clip, two plain back pockets and two smaller back pockets almost concealed in the back yoke seam, twin thigh pockets with internal dividers and top zip closures, a hidden small pocket in the back waist band (good for hiding cash or keys), an internal ‘flex-cuff’ pocket at the front waist and a ‘handcuff key pocket’ inside the hem of one trouser leg. The front bag and thigh pockets are generously sized, while the waistband has seven belt loops, a ‘comfort’ stretch panel and twin taped button closure over the zip fly. The trousers are very comfortable (although the waist seems to be cut lower than some 5.11 trousers), tough, well-designed and very strongly made.
A Teflon water-, stain- and soil-resistant finish helps keep you dry in light rain, and I found the trousers more than smart enough for casual wear, while still being plenty tough enough for field wear. All in all, these are very practical, very functional and yet stylish, good looking and smart trousers, suitable for wear across a wide range of activities.
Available in 28-44 waist and 30-36 in-seam sizes and Black, Khaki, Battle Brown (as photographed), TDU Green and Dark Navy, the 5.11 Apex trousers cost around £65.00.
