Ridgeline Torrent II Jacket And Roar Pants
- Last updated: 25/01/2017
Here we’ve chosen separate items from the Torrent and Roar ranges of apparel to illustrate how you can mix ‘n’ match from the clothing on offer to tailor a hunting suit to meet your particular preferences and requirements.
Manufactured from the company’s own unique seam-sealed three-layer RL Quiettex material, incorporating a 100% waterproof and windproof laminated Polyester shell, this material is also highly abrasion-resistant and, as the name implies, very quiet in use. The outer is soft to the touch and overall the garments are surprisingly light in weight, so the emphasis is very much on keeping you dry rather than overly warm. The jacket offers a reasonable amount of padding (insulation) and has a mesh lining, allowing the wearer to decide what to wear underneath to suit the temperature. Alternatively, the Roar Pants (unlike the Torrent option which are of an over-trouser design) are more substantial in build – you’d require a pair of hi-tech thermal underwear or very lightweight combat trousers underneath only in the coldest of weather.
The Jacket isn’t of a usual full 3⁄4-length design but does comfortably extend low enough below the waist to offer a good level of protection at this area. I mention this as I feel some jackets can be overly long and therefore restrict movement, which is definitely not the case with the generous yet sensible cut of the Torrent II. It boasts two deep double press-stud-fasten cargo pockets with two lined hand-warmer chest pockets above. On the inside you have two large zip-close pockets with an extra open mesh Velcro tab-fasten pocket on the inside left of the garment. The high stand-up padded storm collar features a generously sized wired and three-way drawcord toggle, adjustable zip detachable peaked-hood. The front fastens with a heavy duty two-way rustproof zip and press-stud- down overflap, while the cuffs are part-elasticated and include a Velcro strap-fastener for cinching tight around the wrists. Another useful pocket is found on the inside of the stormflap – a zip fasten ‘vertical’ opener that’s ideal for storing your FAC, shoot permission and/or car keys. The jacket also features a vented back and generously sized underarm waterproof zip-close vents for temperature regulation.
The Roar Trousers are similarly well-designed, but offer more by way of insulation. They feature waterproofed zips on both side hand- warmer pockets and the trousers have a semi- elasticated waistband, belt loops, zip-fly and press- stud fastening. They also feature a reinforced seat and similar reinforcement is found at the ankle areas.
