Here we have a pair of Yeti Gaiters, which for those who don’t know are essentially a sleeve that seals the gap where your trousers meet the top of your boot. Their primary function is providing protection by helping keep your feet dry and by shielding the top of your boots from mud, snow and water. Or in my case I actually bought mine for some added protection from ticks, as the top of the boot and bottom of your trousers is a very easy access point for them! They are of course suitable for use in summer and winter conditions.
Wisport manufacture them from Cordura, which is a good choice of material as it is rugged, water resistant and offers excellent durability in the field. They are kept in position by an underfoot cord, which sits just in front of the heel of your boot, this particular component will sustain wear and tear with time, due to its location but it can easily be replaced. The elasticated calf and ankle section of the gaiter forms the seal around the boot, along with a press-stud.
It is also held in position by a small metal hook that connects to the laces of the boot. From here there is a full-length front zipper, which is secured with a Velcro storm flap at the front, making it easy to put the kit on and finally at the top you will find an elastic draw cord and cord lock to help make the seal.
If you are looking to add a bit more protection when out and about, then these gaiters are certainly worth a look. They are available in black, multi cam, drab, Polish woodland and olive.
