Condor A-TACS Chest Rig and Pouches
- Last updated: 25/01/2017
For many years now I’ve had items of nylon load carrying gear from Condor Outdoor in my line-up for two reasons. First and foremost, it’s exceptionally well- priced and, secondly, it offers fabulous quality for what you pay! Condor Outdoor specialise in tactical vests, plate carriers, modular pouches, packs, and all the accessories you can imagine, along with some equally good clothing and footwear; but that’s for another time. With over 20 years’ worth of experience in the tactical/outdoor gear industry, Condor has established great business relationships with literally hundreds of suppliers worldwide and has an excellent reputation amongst those who use the gear.
For a recent game I was looking for a very specific chest rig set-up that would allow me to run reasonably light whilst giving me enough storage for magazines and gear. For the base rig here I chose a Condor OPS chest rig which is basically just a MOLLE platform that allows you to configure your pouches exactly as you want them. Priced at just £39.99 this is super value, although it’s still made with first-rate fabrics and components. There’s enough MOLLE ‘real estate’ to accommodate a good few pouches too.
I kept things very simple as I wanted a really low-drag-recce feel to the rig, so for £29.99 I simply added a triple closed-top Condor M4 magazine pouch designed for six double stacked 5.56 magazines, which actually gave me space for three 7.62 magazines. For £27.99 I also added a Condor T&T pouch for carrying some small binoculars, notebook, compass, GPS and a multitool; there’s also a clear fold-out section to give easy access to maps, although the main OPS rig has a 7 x 11-inch map pocket integral to the design.
In use this turned out to be an exceptionally versatile set-up and certainly fulfilled the recce role I had in mind for it. The shoulder harness is fully and easily adjustable and very comfortable over extended periods of time. Both pouches worked perfectly, holding magazines and equipment solidly in place. Along with a small hydration pack, the OPS rig proved to be the perfect bit of kit for the job in
hand.
I chose the A-TACS FG pattern to work with my overall uniform loadout, but Condor Outdoors offer their gear in multiple solid block colours and camouflage patterns; you can be pretty certain that there will be something that will work well with your individual loadout in their
range. For the price, this is a solid and cost-effective rig.
PRICE: just over £100
