Viper VX Backpacks

Viper VX Backpacks

Considering Viper already have a comprehensive range of backpacks, it initially might seem strange that they’ve added the VX series to their roster. However, these, unlike the unashamedly tactical designs of the Lazer and Hextech ranges, are what I’d term a ‘hybrid tactical. As they’re cosmetically more in keeping with a sport/leisure rucky but with a definite ‘tactical taste’, due to the build integrating certain military features.

Molle, molle!

Specifically, these being MOLLE attachment panels, D-ring points for chest rig compatibility and a top front positioned Velcro ID panel. They’re manufactured from 700D Polytech material, which is an in-house blend of a denier and nylon weave. This results in them having a tough, smooth outer ‘stretchy’ shell with a high resistance to abrasion and weather. Also, all are wellpadded and have shoulder harnesses; grab handle plus low-profile zips with cord pull assists.

Measuring 35 x 24 x 22cm and weighing 0.54kg, the VX Buckle Up Charger consists of a main body and one front lower compartment; both of are expandable due to the nature of the build, so offering a capacity of between 2 - 14L. It will work in conjunction with any Viper VX Buckle Up system and also, due to it having a large MOLLE panel on the back, the shoulder straps are not only adjustable but fully removeable. These also have twin elasticated loops on the outer edges, while internally, there’s a bladder pouch and a bladder/comms outlet at the top.

Express

Next up, at 44 x 24 x 15cm, and 0.56kg is the 15L VX Express. The main compartment can be accessed using the two-way, full-length zips, or an express opening system. This consists of a horizontal grab handle positioned top front that, when pulled, will quickly draw down both zips whereupon the pack fully opens out. This then gives access to 5x internal zipped compartments (four of an open mesh design) plus a useful tear away internal grab bag. Measuring 18 x 20 x 4cm with a full Velcro over flap fastening main compartment and 2x outer mesh pockets this makes an ideal place to store a first aid kit or such like…

The pack shows 2x Velcro, tab-fastened, Spandex side-pockets each with a MOLLE panel positioned above plus another at the lower of the body, which expand overall versatility. The well-padded rear panel is covered with full, 3D mesh for better grip and ventilation and the two adjustable shoulder straps are fully padded with D-ring points.

Vortex

Measuring 45 x 32 x 12cm and weighing 0.68kg is the 15L VX Vortex. This more basic design gives access to the main compartment via double, two-way zips. On the outer front side are 2x Spandex zipped pockets. On either side are MOLLE panels, 1x Spandex pocket on the left and two, quick-release ABS buckle fastened compression straps on both sides. The back panel has 3D mesh padding and the chest harness on this model consists of two generously padded/ adjustable shoulder straps with a sternum strap. The upper section of both the shoulder straps have twin, double elasticated loops for extra carriage. Internally, there’s an elasticated top nylon sleeve and directly behind, a dedicated bladder pocket. This, as well as the bladder/ coms outer, clearly indicates it’s mainly intended for those looking for a hydration pack.
