Top of the Range have sent us details of some products that they are distributing for technical sportswear company, Under Armour. They make two ranges of ‘base layer’ thermal clothing; the first comes under the heading HeatGear – designed for those that need to keep cool; the second is ColdGear – for sportsmen that need to keep warm. It’s garments from the latter group that we’ve been looking at. Aside from active sportsmen (and women), ColdGear is also chosen as a base layer clothing by some military service personnel.
These garments are designed for when conditions are really cold, keeping athletes warm, dry, and light even in temperatures under 13 degrees C. All ColdGear® garments feature a double-sided fabric that wicks moisture from the skin and circulates body heat, keeping you warm without weighing you down.
Crews and Mocks
The Under Armour ColdGear Tactical Crew is a long sleeved T-shirt made from a two layer brushed fabric (66% Nylon / 19% Polyester / 15% Elastene mix) that combines enhanced thermal protection and moisture transport. The crewneck design ensures a stealth fit beneath your uniform or outerwear. Superior slip-on feel and compression fit make it a perfect active base layer. Recommended for cold weather training and all outdoor activities, the Crew also has a UPF 30+ factor for protection from harmful sun rays. The durable nylon outer resists wind while the trade-marked ArmourBlock anti-microbial keeps you fresh. Available in either white, black, olive or sand, in sizes from small to 3XL, the Under Armour ColdGear Crew costs £35.
The Under Armour ColdGear Longsleeve Mock has a similar build and features but in a turtle neck style. Also priced at £35, the Mock comes in sizes from small to 3XL, and a choice of five colours – white, black, grey, green and navy blue. A shortsleeve Mock is also available.
There’s also a ladies version, called the Women’s ColdGear Mock, designed with a feminine silhouette and compression fit to keep the female athlete warm and dry on the coldest of days. It gives warmth without weight through any workout and the brushed, double-sided fabric feels great next to skin. The Women’s Mock has an embroidered neck logo and is made from a 82% 5 oz Cationic Polyester / 18% Elastane mix. Available in six colours and sizes from XS through to XXL, once again the price is £40.
To compliment the Crew and Mock T’s, Under Armour offer ColdGear Leggings – hi-tech compression fit ‘long johns’ that keeps your lower half comfortable, warm, and dry. Featuring ColdGear’s double-knit fabric to keep you dry, the brushed poly inner also traps heat to keep you warm. Other features include a fly front, drawstring waistband, muscle compression, flatlock stitching (to avid chaffing) and ArmourBlock anti-microbial to keep you fresh and smelling sweet – for up to two weeks without washing apparently! Available in black only, the ColdGear leggings are priced at £35 inc.VAT.
The woman’s version of these leggings are called ColdGear Frosty Tights and also come with flatlock seams to bolster muscle support and eliminate abrasion. Brushed, double-sided fabric allows a maximum range of motion while locking in body heat.
Also only available in black, the Frosty Tights cost £35
All these ColdGear garments fit like a second skin, and once you put them on, you soon feel the warmth and muscle support that they give.
