5 Budget Rimfire Rifles

  • Savage A22 Magnum

The A22 shows a polymer stock with textured sections on the grip and forend and Q/D sling studs fore and aft. The build is all-steel, with a button-rifled, barrel (22LR-16-inch and 22WMR-22-inch) and case-hardened receiver. It’s threaded ½ x20 UNF and feed is from a 10-shot mag (either calibre). It comes with Weaver bases and controls consist of a cross-bolt safety in the trigger guard, AccuTrigger and a manual hold open. In 22 WMR it offers a powerful rimfire auto-loading platform and should prove popular. A laminate thumbhole stock version will soon be available.

  • CZ455

    CZ455

A few years ago, CZ decided to replace their iconic 452 bolt-action with a new version the 455. You’d be hard-pressed to tell, as it looks identical, even down to the magazine used. The major difference is the fact that the new CZ455 is a switch barrel, which is a clever move. Available in 22LR, 22WMR and 17HMR the barrel is retained in the action by twin set screws and changed in five-minutes. The mag well is for the longer magnum magazine and in 22LR a filler block is used to take up the shorter COL.

  • Chiappa Little Badger

    Chiappa Little Badger

The Little Badger is a break-barrel, single shot rifle and is available in 22 LR, .22 WMR and 9mm Flobert. It’s light at 3lbs and can fold up for storage. The butt is a simple, metal, wire frame attached to a moulded polymer pad. There’s no forend but a 4-way Picatinny rail for optics (iron sights come as standard). The action is opened by a lever in front of the trigger guard; there’s no safety, instead, the hammer is manually cocked. The 16.5-inch barrel is threaded for a moddy.
