Deben 400 Laser Rangefinder
- Last updated: 19/12/2016
A compact fixed magnification laser rangefinder is useful for many hunting situations, not only for its primary purpose of assessing range but also to use as a monocular for scanning any area up ahead of your position. The Hawke LRF 400 Professional is one of a series of three rangefinders; along with the LRF 600, and 900. The nomenclature denotes the effective distance these 6X fixed magnification ‘rangers’ are capable of giving readings over - these measurements being accurate to +/- 1m.
SMALL & LIGHT
Measuring 99 X 68 X 40mm and weighing only 180-grams the ergonomically designed rubber armoured ABS body casing fits comfortably in the hand and gives easy access to both the ON/OFF and mode control buttons positioned on the top. Power is from a CR2 3V battery (supplied). Hawke thoughtfully supply a key to open the compartment and integrate it into the hand lanyard that also comes with the unit. In fact the complete package also includes a practical Neoprene carry case with belt loop and, as expected of any optical product the company supply, the range finder is protected by the Hawke Worldwide warranty.
Its range finding capabilities include: distance (BEELINE), height, height difference and angle. Like its’ stablemates, the LRF 400 Pro is very easy to use, the two operational controls being of the rubberised pressure switch type and it function as follows. To switch the unit on the button furthest from the eyepiece is pressed once. To take a reading a second press on the button does the business and the range pops up in the LCD display.
CLEAR VIEWING
The reticule is uncluttered and gives all information clearly (including battery status indicator plus laser emitter strength). The eyepiece is focusable to refine your view and features a twist-up eye cup! All range finding modes can be accessed quickly and simply by scrolling through the menu using the mode button positioned behind the forward ON/OFF and laser firing button. Also to conserve your battery reserves the unit will automatically switch itself off after 15 seconds of prolonged inactivity.
As with all other Hawke LRF Pro rangefinders it has a 25mm objective lens, gives distance readings in metric or imperial, is water resistant and has a FOV of 122m @1000m. During test the Hawke LRF 400 Professional Laser Rangefinder proved to be a highly accurate unit and amongst one of the most comfortable to hold and operate one-handed. The in-view LCD screen is well laid out to show all the information required and the 25mm objective lens gave a very clear and bright sight image.
