Red Dots & Lasers

  • Shield CQS red dot sight

Reviewer: Pete Moore The CQS mini reflex sight measures 2 x 1.2 x 1.2-inches and weighs 2.3oz and features a black-anodised aluminium body. There are lenses front and back enclosing the dot, which stops the problems of refraction if water gets onto the back of the front lens or the LED. A sliding cover leaves the sight on minimum power without use of a separate cover. There are three dot sizes, 1MOA (with 65MOA ring) 4MOA and 8 MOA and the CQS comes with a snapon plastic cover and a high Picatinny base, which makes it compatible, height-wise with any flat-top AR15/ M16 platform. Plus, there’s a low base. For me, the CQS represents a quantum leap forward over Shield’s original Mini Sight, which is a good design in itself.

  • Enfield ENF 1x32 Red Dot Sight

Enfield ENF 1x32 Red Dot Sight

Reviewer: graham allen Those wanting an optic for use on a military style air rifle or an airsoft replica might want an expensive Mil-spec optic but don’t want to pay a small fortune. The Enfield ENF 1x32 Red Dot Sight is therefore perfect, as it mimics a rather famous sight often seen on 5.56mm M4 carbines! The styling is spot-on and even comes with back-up ‘iron sights’ on top of the unit. The strong alloy housing is coated in a hard-wearing rubber skin and is clamped to a Picatinny rail via large thumbwheels; elevation and windage are adjusted via slotted dials under threaded, protective caps. The dot can be either red or green and there are five levels of adjustment. Weighing 382g, it’s a substantial sight that looks like it will put up with the occasional knock.

  • Hawke RD30 Red Dot Sight

    Hawke RD30 Red Dot Sight

Reviewer: Graham Allen The Hawke RD30 Red Dot Sight is made from high quality alloy that has a matt black anodised coating. It is available with either a 11-13mm mount for conventional airguns-style dovetails or a Weaver fitment, which are used more and more these days. The 5 MOA dot can be altered from red to green and has five levels of intensity. The sight uses a multi-coated, 30mm lens and as it is fixed focus, it can be used on rifles or pistols. At only 3.7-inches long and 2.6-inches high and 7.2-ounces it won’t upset the balance of what it is fitted to. Power comes from a CR2032, housed in the illumination adjuster on top of the sight. A highly versatile sight that won’t break the bank!

  • Vortex Sparc II Red Dot Sight

Vortex Sparc II Red Dot Sight

Reviewer: Tim Finley The Vortex SPARC II Red Dot Sight is an un-magnified sight with a dot of 2 MOA in diameter, which is powered by a single CR2032 battery and has two Up and DOWN brightness adjustment buttons on the left-hand side. The sight comes in semi-modular form, as it has four possible mounting heights. The body is made out a single piece of aircraft grade aluminium, with a hard-anodised matt finish. The controls are rear facing, so that the shooter can see them and reach them easily, you can adjust the sight by touch alone. It held zero, even after firing 100 12-bore slugs from the shotgun it was fitted to, so this well-made, rugged sight is well worth checking out!

  • Enfield Telstar Laser

    Enfield Telstar Laser

Reviewer: Graham Allen Sometimes even a dot is too big for certain applications, so a compact laser is just the thing. At 61x30x23mm and 44g, the Enfield Telstar Laser is so small you won’t realise it’s fitted to an air pistol! It is attached via a single screw, which holds it firmly in place on a Picatinny rail. Two AG13 button batteries are housed in the base of the matt black anodised alloy unit and the laser is activated by sliding a U-shaped bar across. The 5-milliwatt beam is very bright, even during the day and makes target acquisition easy. Zeroing is carried out by adjusting the two Allen screws and the unit held zero during extended range sessions. Another thing the Telstar has going for it is the fact that it is only £19.95, now that’s a bargain!
