Konus red dot sights

Konus red dot sights

After my introduction to Konus Optics when I reviewed a couple their scopes a while back I mentioned I would be looking at some of the dot sights they manufacture. The UK importers/distributor Evergreen Optics sent me three for test - the SightPro-40, MR and Atomic. All have a high grade alloy build, offer red/green dual colour aim points and have a 5-level adjustable intensity rheostat dial that houses a single CR2032 3V Lithium battery that powers them. All except the MR have capped slot-head adjuster turrets.

Newest and Biggest

The largest is the SIGHTPRO-40, which very much follows the old Tasco-type, full tube design much favoured by handgunners before the UK pistol ban. It has a 40mm objective lens and is held in a 1 ¾ x 4 7/8” body tube. The 2 7/8” long reversible base is designed to fit Weaver-type dovetails.
The five different levels of intensity for each colour allows you to choose what serves you best depending on the light conditions and the colour that stands out best against the background or target.

Developed to offer maximum light transmission, this model is becoming quite popular in certain countries for driven boar shooting, so I am told. I used this for a spot of ratting and it’d be well suited for feral pigeon work too. The coated lenses give a bright sight picture and despite its size and weight (12oz) it doesn’t affect handling of the smallest of carbines, though it might be a bit big for a handgun!

Professional

The SIGHTPRO-MR is rated as the most professional and technologically advanced of the range, as it offers four, separate, selectable reticule patterns, which are selected by a rotary wheel at the rear of the unit. This generic reflex design has been around for some time, proving that it works and is still popular. Instead of having just the traditional round dot aiming point, it features a choice of four reticules that all offer possibilities; these are selected by a rotary drum at the rear. It also has a dual mount so can be fitted to either a Weaver or a 3/8” rail. It’s 2.9” long and weighs 4.4oz and has a 25 MOA dot size. Also included is a semi-rigid rubber front screen cover. Windage and elevation are altered by two recessed Allen headed grub screws on the top (elevation) and the side (windage), one click = 1” @ 100-yds. I used this on my Rohm Target Trainer Combat Rifle for some fast fun gun shooting. It looks well suited for 22 rimfire semi-autos too.

Micro

Measuring a titchy 2.4” long and 3.8oz with a 20mm objective lens, the super compact SIGHTPRO ATOMIC is one of the smallest traditional red/green dot scope on the market. Rugged and designed to withstand even the most powerful of firearms, it is a copy of the AimPoint Micro. It’s light that it can be mounted onto a suitable air pistol, crossbow or other specialist archery equipment. It features a 4 MOA ‘dot’ and has unlimited eye-relief. The integrated base mount fits standard Weaver or Picatinny rails with an adaptor for 3/8” rails. Great for small pistol use, suiting them in weight and size.

FOR - Build quality and variety
AGAINST - Price could be an issue
VERDICT - Bombproof build and practical
