Weaver Classic V-Series 3-9x38

Weaver Classic V-Series 3-9x38

The Weaver scope on test comes from their Classic V-Series and offers a spec of 3-9 X 38 and came with a set of their mounts. This is a neat and good looking optic, well built and it shows. For the test I mounted it on my CZ 452 .22LR which is used as a general vermin and bunny buster out to 75yds. I’m not a lover of massive optics, I like them just enough for the job and this one seemed to fit the bill nicely.

Good All Round

Once mounted the superb optics and well defined duplex (Dual-X) reticule are clearly apparent, with an excellent field of view, generous eye relief and fast power change adjustments. Like its name this scope shows some classic features. The eyebell use the old-style, lock ring focus, which is fine by me. Likewise the low, capped turrets require a screwdriver to adjust them and show a free rotating plate to set a zero position from. Again not an issue as you are never going to bother taking off the cap and dialling in a correction in the field!

The build offers fully multi-coated lenses, hard coatings on exterior glass surfaces and a nitrogen-purged tube to eliminate internal fogging. Typically they are water, shock and fog proof. Weaver have been making scopes for a long time and know what they are about!

Bedding down with the rifle on a rear rest and bi-pod I bore sighted and then put five shots on the paper at 75 yds. The group went high and right, three more strings of five had it bang on and ready for work. I shot a lot of ammo through the CZ/Classic combination and as befits a decent 22 rimfire and scope they all went where they were aimed at. Click values are ¼” @ 100-yards and 51-clicks per rotation (12.75”) and 6 3/4 rotations (86” top to bottom and side to side. Not too bad!

Tough Enough

I used it on vermin in the early morning and late evening, no matter how cold or wet fogging was never a problem. I’m not known for my care of my sporting rifles, in my opinion they are a tool and must be tough enough. The Weaver proved to be so, never once letting me down. As on the bench the zero held.

Weaver also expands the Classic V-Series™ with additional reticule options that enhance a shooter’s ability to estimate distance, having seen some of these at the Shot Show they are worth a look and consideration.
