Sportsmatch Scope Dial Pointer & Magnifier

Sportsmatch Scope Dial Pointer & Magnifier

Two new products have just been developed by Sportsmatch U.K., the world famous scope mounts manufacturer. Primarily aimed at the demands of Field Target Shooting (but in practise, applicable outside this arena too) both the new accessories are built around a high quality, split scope ring assembly, to fit directly around a 30mm scope tube.

What’s The Point…

With the use of large side wheels on modern range-finding scopes becoming ever more popular, a precise pointer to enable the target distance to be accurately displayed, is becoming a necessity. The Sportsmatch Scope Dial Pointer is made to do just that, allowing an adjustable pointer to be set up exactly as required.

As Mathew Ford from Sportsmatch explains, the hinged rings that both products use are actually machined from a solid block of aircraft grade aluminium, rather than being just an extrusion. This all takes time, but the end result is - as usual with this company’s products - exquisitely engineered.

The Pointer’s needle can be finely adjusted within the ring to suit the shooters requirements, so all bases are covered. With range-finding scopes becoming more popular for hunting (let alone FT) maximizing performance is something that any serious shooter will be striving for.

Easy on the Eyes

The Scope Dial Magnifier incorporates an adjustable lens on a pivot, and can be set up in conjunction with the Pointer where a side wheel is used, accentuating the readings, thus increasing precision and accuracy for rangefinding. Setting up is child’s play, with the hinged ring simply clamped around the scope body at the correct distance; a straight forward task involving a single Allen screw. Alternatively, the ring can be set to magnify increments from a conventional top turret. Either way, the figures become much easier to read, especially in the heat of competition.

All components are made in house, save for the lens, which was sourced from a UK based glasses/lens manufacturer; the quality of which is understandably reflected in the asking price. Sportsmatch specify the lens as 10x magnification, although in use, once set into position, I reckon it operates at less than that. What it does though, is work a treat, bringing the dial readings or turret graduations to life.

For shooters with failing eyesight (it happens to the best of us!) the magnifier could just prove to be something of a Godsend, just smoothing the path and making our sport that bit more relaxed and enjoyable.

Quality Materials, Precision Engineered

Both these products, as mentioned, are superbly engineered in England to the highest standards, as we have come to expect from this world class home-grown company, and whilst the retail price reflects this, the utter precision on offer makes them a serious investment for the discerning shooter.

The Scope Dial Pointer (PST1) retails for £40 approximately, while the Scope Dial Magnifier (MST1) costs around £80.
