Aeron Stock Raiser Palm Rest

As outdoor airgun disciplines, such as Field Target and Hunter Field Target, gain in popularity, so the spin-off mini industry for dedicated accessories continues unabated. The worth of the stock raiser or Hamster to use the silly nick name, has really come to the fore of late, and with many dedicated competition rifles featuring such add-ons as standard, their use has become ever more widespread.

The idea is that the device creates a much deeper forend section, which then acts as a platform to support the leading hand. Elevated targets up trees are often at quite awkward angles, and this can be a real strain on the shooter, to get into a position where the shot can be taken without too much muscle ache! ‘Off peg’ shots occasionally crop up too, and in this situation, the aim is just made so much easier with a deeper section of forend. The shooter can then take aim on those tricky standing or kneeling shots, whilst maintaining a more comfortable upright position.

High spec

Sure Shot Airguns seem to have their finger on the pulse of the sport, and now stock a wide range of accessories, all aimed at the serious competitor who wants to steal a march on their rivals. They stock full-blown match rigs that come complete with stock raisers/ palm rests, but they now also sell these devices as optional extras.

story continues below...

Made by Aeron in the Czech Republic, the Stock Raiser Palm Rests can be specified in either wood or aluminium, and both feature a fully adjustable top assembly (itself machined from aluminium) which allows for the whole unit to be canted forwards, backwards, up or down. Fitting to the rifle is very simple, and just requires the unit to be slid into place into the stock’s accessory rail. Then the two Allen screws can be nipped up for the initial tightening.

Wood or alloy?

The black wood option has an attractive textured paint applied, and this palm rest is a little over eight inches long. The aluminium spec is around 1.5” longer, and is slickly machined. Along with drainage holes in the design, this version also allows for the support/adjustment block to be moved and mounted in different positions- either at one end of the base, or in the centre. Bear in mind that the whole assembly can be attached in reverse, and that means there are effectively three main positions possible.

Adjustment with either design is easily carried out via three Allen screws on each support rod, and with the base slackened off, moved into position to exactly the angle and position required, the screws can be finally tightened up to keep everything locked in place.

In short, these stock raisers are well made, and do the job admirably, and have to be seen as reasonable value for money, give the level of adjustment on offer. Two more worthy additions to the Sure Shot range of accessories.
