Boss Snipe Shooting Chair

Boss Snipe Shooting Chair

Shooting chairs are a new and doubtless a clever idea, as they allow a comfortable, multi-adjustable and stable firing position that can only improve your performance. The best known is the Idleback and with what I have here (The Boss Snipe Chair) comparisons are unavoidable.

The Snipe is 2/3rds cheaper, far more basic but does the same job. Made of steel in a choice of black and green finishes and even camo, features consist of a tripod base that can be folded for transport and storage. To this fits a padded seat and removable back rest and a hinged, height-adjustable gun cradle. Also included is a padded, ambidextrous arm support.

Bolt Up

story continues below...

The two sections secure together by a vertical bolt and washer, all you do is drop the seat on and tighten it (15/16” spanner) so it’s firm but can rotate 360°. The back rest then fits by a big, plastic knob as does the arm rest by another. The rifle rest sits between your legs and hinges front to back and is also height-adjustable by a knob. On the end is a small, padded yoke for the forend. Assembly is quick and easy and the chair can be folded down and carried if required, the weight is around 17 lbs!

Sit ‘n’ Swivel

The snipe is solid though the tripod does not cover a lot of area, plus the feet are very small so would easily sink into soft ground and have holes in them for pegging down. There is no height adjustment, but as can be seen the sitting position is comfortable and about right. I like the idea of the arm rest as it keeps the elbow supported. This can be switched from left to right to suit. However, it’s not height-adjustable and I found it could have been higher to bring the elbow up to a more natural position. This could be solved with a longer back rest shaft allowing both it and the back pad to slide up and down as required. That aside the Snipe works and offers a stable shooting platform, albeit a heavy one, that can be carried into the field. As a matter of course I’d slap some grease on the pivot bolt too.
