As a long-time owner of AIM Field Sports bags, I can say they’re amongst, if not the best, in relation to features, function and price. In that respect, their AIM55 Multi-Cam Drag Bag is yet another fine example of their product line and ability. The 55 nomenclature denotes the overall length, but like most in their range, it’s 12” at its deepest point.
This model is offered in Multicam®. The Cordura material is from Duro Textiles (America). They are a major supplier of fabric, technologies and camouflage for the military for many years. The 1000 denier Cordura used in the manufacture is the heaviest they offer. It’s coated on the back for water resistance and the outer with a durable water repellent coating.
The outer spec clearly illustrates that it means business, as all handles and the drag hood are box stitched and reinforced; plus, all zips protected. It fastens with a heavy-duty zip with a cord toggle pull and opens out, to turn into a shooting mat. Rather than having a press-stud flap that is often the norm for bags of this type, AIM has opted to use a snug fitting over-flap to protect the zip. Plus, there are six QD fasteners, to take the strain off the main zip. Two more also secure the bag’s detachable drag hood with integral handle.
There’s another webbing drag handle on the opposite side to the pockets. Staying on this side, not only are there a multitude webbing loops for carrying extra kit, but also a discreet zipped panel. This contains detachable and padded adjustable shoulder/belt harness with a sternum strap, which allows you to backpack the AIM55 and carry the weight of your gun and all the extras you have stored comfortably over long distances if required. When not required, you can unclip the harness and store it in its compartment; neat! Alternatively, you can drag it across the ground by its sturdy handle or carry it conventionally by the wrap-around strong webbing Velcro-fastened handle.
The main compartment is encased and protected by thick, closed cell padding. To ensure total gun security in transit, internally there is a butt support pouch, plus three adjustable ABS snap clip securing straps, fully ensuring that once placed inside, the contents won’t budge an inch. There’s also a narrow, integral sleeve integrated into the spine, to specifically accommodate a cleaning rod.
There are two external pockets for carrying extra gear; binos, ammo bipod etc. The smaller one measures approx. 14” x 10 ¾” and has an additional diagonally zipped pouch on its outer face for targets, shoot permission, FAC and the like. The larger one is approx. 24” x 10 ¾” and both extend when ‘packed’ up to 2” from the outer side of the bag.
