Jack Pyke Rifle rucksack

Jack Pyke Rifle rucksack

Rucksacks that have the ability to also carry/store a rifle have been around for quite a while, but those of a type that can fully conceal the rifle being transported are usually found at a high price point. Well, thanks to Jack Pyke we now have an affordable alternative, the aptly named Rifle Rucksack.

A pack on the back

Manufactured from 600D Cordura, in rucksack mode, it measures around 20 x 11 x 9” and has a capacity of approximately 22L. The main bag compartment is accessed by a strong two-way zip upon which the semi clamshell opening then reveals the large main compartment, plus its upper zipped mesh pouch and lower elasticated top internal pocket.

Pockets & storage

On the outer side of the rucksack is a large, double zip front pocket, with an internal lower mesh holder. In-between both the main compartment and the very rear compartment is a single zipped smaller admin pocket at the very top of the pack. It also features 2x mesh side pockets and the pack also has 2x side compression straps with ABS snap buckle fastening. There’s also an external bungee to further tailor the pack to the contents contained. All external zips have strong cord pull assists.

The pack has a wellpadded double shoulder harness with adjustable straps and sternum strap, plus a wide, removable and adjustable waist strap with side padding.

The Rifle Rucksack also comes with an additional mesh storage bag with top drawcord fastening. This can be used for carrying shot game off your shoot and has ABS & metal spring clips that attach to the packs 2x lower external D-rings.

Extra carriage options include a padded top grab handle and a side handle, which is very useful for when the bag transforms into a gun carrier.

The changeling

The zipped gun slip, or as the company term it ‘foldable holster’, is cleverly integrated into the build of the pack and when not in use folds into its own storage compartment.

This is found just behind the padded back mesh of the pack. The top and bottom of this storage compartment unzip to allow the butt section to fold out from the top of the pack, while the muzzle section emerges from the bottom. This is a very clever design that allows a rifle to enter in from the top, via a zipped opening. The sleeve (although attached to the inner of the pack) is designed as a lined and padded full-length gun slip with webbing reinforcement at the muzzle. It measures approximately 50” when deployed and around 8” in width at the widest point.

It’ll hold virtually any sporter design mechanical action air rifle combo, most standard design PCPs with medium to large objective lens scopes on board, plus scoped rimfires and certain centrefire firearms with reflex style moderators.

However, if the Rifle Rucksack takes your fancy, then measure your combo to ensure it’ll fulfil the double duty it’s designed for.
