Razorback Rifle Carbine Gun bag

When Napier decides to design a new concept in gun luggage you know it’s going to be a good un’. Well the Razorback ‘range’ of gun bags is certainly proof of that and here I have the carbine, which is just one option of a range that offers the following; standard and 32” barrel shotgun, stalker slip, and full length rifle (48”) and carbine. You even have a choice of 3-colours - green, charcoal grey and terracotta!

Four Layers Deep

The carbine model here on test is a fine example of what the range offers by way of build and features. Measuring 42” in length and 10” at the deepest point the bonded, outer material is known as ‘LAMTEC’ and is waterproof and abrasion resistant. The build offers four layers - a waterproof membrane, high density 10mm foam, EVA tough shell and a soft Syn-fleece lining to cosset the rifle once inside. There’s also an internal butt end ‘protector retainer’ pouch and strap.

The main strength of the Razorback lies in its EVA spine which forms a hard shell around the gun. This is so tough it will take an incredible 110lb lateral load pressure even when empty. Certainly a unique feature as it offers flight case type protection in a ‘soft sided’ gun bag. If this wasn’t enough the outside boasts ARMOUR FLEX scuff panels at the front rear and middle sections. Whilst a colour-coordinated, non-slip, adjustable shoulder strap completes the package.

Zip It

Next on the list of priorities was to improve on the zip closure; as more gun bags fail in this area than any other. So trust Napier to ‘produce’ a heavy duty design (including rubberised grip tags) that is self healing, smooth running with the whole track being further protected by what they call a weather shield guard meaning it’s proof against; scuffs, knocks, mud and rain.

To put the icing on the cake rather than use wrap-around, padded carry handles Napier have designed what is known as a GRIP LOCK handle. Ergonomically designed they offer synthetic, male and female shapes that clip together for a secure hold. whereby one slots into the other to securely lock the two together.

On the outer is a generous 12” X 6” pocket for items like magazine, chokes etc, which shows the same zip design as the main bag. Plus there’s the obligatory sachet of Napier VP90 corrosion inhibitor that slips into an internal pouch to protect your gun in transit and most impressive is that the Razorback offers a 5-year Warranty.

Quite frankly the Razorback is the finest gun bag of its type, has incredible build quality, is highly innovative and offers ultimate protection from a soft-sided design.
