Jack Pyke Binocular Harness

Jack Pyke Binocular Harness

A quality pair of binoculars are not only a field essential for the hunter but one of the mainstay optical aids used by many outdoor enthusiasts, including birdwatchers or those who observe wildlife in general.

Some unwisely don’t use the neck strap they come with, the reason being that they might swing/ move around as you walk, which can be infuriating. However, this is not as bad as the damage that can be caused if you drop them! In that respect, harnesses designed to hold them close to your chest are especially useful for negating unwanted movement, plus have a major benefit of leaving your hands free.

Adjustability & comfort

The Jack Pyke Binocular Harness is designed to allow for the comfortable hands-free carry of a pair of binoculars, plus its design also makes it highly and easily adjustable.

First, the binoculars are attached to the harness via 2x connecting rings. These are large but strong split rings that are slipped through the standard strap attachment points found at each side of the binos. These rings in turn are attached to the harness using ABS quick release clips. This allows for the binoculars to be detached from the harness quickly, should you not require them in the chest position. An example of this is if you needed to belly crawl into a viewing or shooting position. However, when attached to the harness, it allows for a quick reach to the binoculars and the 4x slide adjusters on the 25mm elasticated straps, allow you to alter the harness quickly and positively for position preference and of course personal build.

Over the shoulder

The harness uses an over shoulder design, so it has to be put over the neck, with the full grain leather connecting patch at the rear and the binoculars hanging down in front of you like a normal neck strap. Then, you put your arms through the front pair of straps at either side, while the opposing straps lie across and down the back of your shoulder blades. This evenly distributes the weight for wearer comfort.

Not only are the binos ready for use at all times, but the elastic/stretch nature of the straps also helps to steady your hold and therefore improves your ability to attain a stable sight image.

Conclusion

In general, a binocular harness wouldn’t cause that much of a stir, but in this case, the design and price are such that these really do deserve to be given credit. They are light and extremely unobtrusive when worn and that’s even with a medium weight pair of binos attached. Incidentally, photographers will be pleased to note the strength of the harness is such that it’ll comfortably hold a sensibly sized, digital SLR, which further illustrates just how versatile the JP Bino Harness actually is.
