Mauser Rucksack and Range Bag

If you have a favourite brand, who can honestly admit they don’t want the matching luggage? I live my shooting life out of a variety of carefully organised bags that each contain hunting gear, binoculars, thermal spotters, knives, gloves, and additional clothing. And that’s just in the rucksack! Mauser’s is 50cm tall, 26cm wide, and 28cm deep, depending on how heavily it is stuffed and how full it gets.
Rucksack pockets
There are two large full-height pockets with a pair of small and large front pockets in a format that seems to cater most logically for the trade-off between volume, value, and ease of accessibility. There are items you need to store repeatedly and memorably to remember where they are when you are looking for them after dark!
Mauser’s Rucksack has compression straps on the sides to prevent inner movement when trying to stay quiet, and there are multiple internal mesh pockets to further segregate the kit. The back is padded and there is a full-height mesh panel covering this to retain airflow and minimise moisture accumulation. It also has a Velcro seal and if desired, you can add long items in here that won’t compromise comfort.
The colour is unsurprisingly a discreet green, with a bold, embroidered Mauser logo and a “Das Original” statement. I particularly like that the shoulder straps aren’t too thick, so if you need to shoulder and shoot a rifle, all is comfortable. Chest and waist straps are also included for long carries.
More in the range
The Range Bag is more of a boxy holdall shape, which I think is ideal. It has stiff walls and maintains its shape for easy access. The overall size is 50 x 30 x 30cm and there are twin carry handles as well as a shoulder strap. Both bags feature solidly knotted lanyards on the twin zipper layouts for each compartment, but the bag also has eyelets on the zippers if you want to fasten them closed. The top flap is embroidered on the inside, upside down, so when folded open and sat by your side on the range, everyone can see the Mauser logos on either side.
The inner compartment is divided into three equal sections, that I found large enough to store ammunition, a spotting scope, and a small tripod, with various other tools as well as a chronograph. The right end also has an elasticated pouch for fast access items like a waterproof jacket, which you can grab quickly without getting the contents wet. The front pocket folds flat to the ground to make a useful work surface for those times you have to dismantle scope rings, for example. There are also tall mesh pockets for additional accessories under this flap.
Overall, the bag is ideal for its intended purpose and for all but the most heavily equipment-focused specialists.
