Maxpedition Pouches

I’m a sucker for a quality, hardwearing, welldesigned pouch for my gear. Maxpedition is one of the best manufacturers and I’ve been buying their products for decades. The AGR (Advanced Gear Research) range is their latest and many items caught my eye. Every day carry (EDC) items such as multitools, torches, notebooks, pens, and of course knives are all part of my equipment.

Tardis-like admin pouch

The Compact Admin Pouch (CAP) can hold loads of essential gear. It has two internal double zipped compartments and the zips feature moulded finger loops to allow easy access. The front compartment has eight elasticated bands of varying sizes and a single large pocket. The slightly larger, rear zipped compartment has two bigger pockets and four larger elasticated retaining bands. There’s also a sturdy carry handle and plastic “D” loops on each side to attach a shoulder carry strap. However you want to carry the CAP, it has the means to do it.

Fix it on

The Hook and Loop Pouch (HLP) is made to stick onto the front of body armour, with the whole rear covered with a hook backing. I don’t wear body amour but I found it ideal for my notebooks. It also has four open pockets on the front, ideal for my wind meter and ammo, plus, for range days, I can add a laser range finder to the inside. There is a mesh pocket to keep your gear secure inside when you open it wide. There are also single-holed flaps on each of the top corners that can be used to attach a carry strap.

Made to last

The Double Sheath Pouch (DES) and CAP are made out of 500D Hex stop fabric, while the 1000D fabric of the HLP is waterproof, making it perfect for the UK weather, plus it’s double stitched, making it very tough. The grey interiors of the pouches make it easier to find your stuff.

The DES went straight onto my shooting belt and can be used for many things, from pistol magazines to flashlights. It cleverly uses nylon seatbelt webbing, which was designed to be strong as well as friendly to human skin. The flaps extend down into the base of the pouch, so when the Velcro fastening is pulled apart and the flap pulled up, it causes the item within the pouch to rise up out of it. A very clever design for sure, meaning the item sits deep in the pouch to keep it from falling out, but you can still easily access it.

The CAP and DES have two Tac Tie polymer straps for attaching via Molle systems. These are the strongest, most secure rear straps I’ve used on any pouch I have ever had. They are very secure indeed and are designed not to come apart easily, unlike other systems. I’ve used these three carry pouches for a few weeks now and all have performed faultlessly. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.
