Plano Ammunition Boxes

› Ammunition, both factory and home-loaded, is becoming ridiculously expensive, so you need to protect it more than ever. Damaged bullets will not perform consistently, and badly damaged cases june not feed or chamber correctly. With this in mind, quality ammunition boxes are well worth investing in.
Plano 50-Round Ammunition Case
In durable plastic, with a semi-transparent hinged lid, this tough box holds 50 rounds in individual compartments. Two secure catches keep the box tightly closed, even when dropped, and there is a padlock tab for added security (although it would need to be a very small padlock to fit into the hole). What you can do is put a large paperclip through the tab to stop the box from bursting open if it suffers a big impact. Available in a wide range of sizes, for a multitude of rifle and pistol calibres, this is a really good ammo box. The boxes are supplied with colour-coded stickers for easy labelling of the contents.
Plano 20-count box with slip-cover
This box holds the rounds very securely and, when you remove the top, they are presented perfectly for use on the shooting bench. The box is wide enough to be stable and the top and bottom are profiled to match each other, ensuring a secure fit. This type of ammunition box can sometimes easily slip open if carried loosely in a bag, but this version closes snugly and does not easily slide open. The small padlock tab can be fitted with a split ring, and this will stop the lid from coming off accidentally if the box is dropped or lifted by the lid.
Plano Rustrictor Field Ammunition Box
These bigger boxes are ideal for carrying larger quantities of ammunition to the range safely. The heavy-duty top handle folds down for easy storage and the large latch keeps the lid securely in place. An O-ring seal keeps water out and the ‘Rustrictor Technology’ provides additional protection by infusing the walls of the box with a Vapour Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI) to prevent rust. These boxes are also ideal for protecting other precious devices or equipment that might be moisture-sensitive.
Testing
The boxes were loaded up with rounds and put to the test. Dropping them from waist height onto grassy ground did not cause any of them to open or break. When dropped onto a timber floor, all but the 50-round box stayed closed. As stated earlier, a split ring through the padlock tab stopped this. These boxes will have their limits when it comes to durability, but for normal day-to-day use, they are of great quality.
Conclusion
All of the Plano boxes on test have grooves moulded into the tops and bottoms so that they stack without sliding around. They are ideal for storing ammunition and for transporting it to the range, making them a great choice for protecting your ever-more-expensive rounds against damage.
