Primos Trigger Stick-Mono Pod

Primos Trigger Stick-Mono Pod

Deer Stalking, perhaps, on a glorious misty moor, early morning in the Highlands, epitomises the romantic view of this approach, yet a wealth of scenarios are equally deserving in more down to earth settings.

Several makes of shooting stick exist on the market, but one that caught my eye just recently, employs ergonomics and clever design into the bargain. Trigger Sticks have been around for a while, but the new Gen2 variants have taken the shooting stick concept to new levels.

Primos make three models: a Monopod, (on test here), a bipod version, and then the full tripod. Obviously, more complex design adds a little more weight, but where this Monopod is concerned, ‘highly manageable’ sums it up nicely.

Simply Ingenious

What lies at the heart of Trigger Sticks is the main mechanism that allows for instant height adjustment… in the aim! It’s clever stuff and in practise, it works really well. The top support section incorporates a rubberised ‘v’support which holds the rifle, securely and without scratching it. The v itself can twist around, and be locked in place if required via the small catch below.

Telescopic rods allow the Monopod to extend from a minimum height of 33-inches, right up to an impressive 65-inches. The lower section relies on a gentle pull up and can be pre-set to put the shooter in roughly the right area, but finer adjustment is made whilst in the shooting position. Just squeeze the trigger switch and the support can be raised or lowered to suit; and the level of control this gives, at the vital moment, even when very close to taking the shot, is a real eye opener.

Quality of construction is impressive too, with the comfortable rubberised main grip nicely contoured. It all feels really good in the hand, and very reassuring.

Stick Around

In fact, my only negative observation concerns the fine black paint that covers the stem itself which, after accidentally clipping it gently around a tree three times, suffered three small nicks in the paint, suggesting this could be a more robust coating. This is a tool to be used though, so that minor detail apart, and after some extensive testing, this Primos Trigger Stick Gen2 Monopod comes highly recommended.
