Ogdens Game Bag

We’re continually impressed by Phil Ogden’s sporting luggage. Not only does he make all his items from the most suitable materials available and in a range of grades, but all of them are very well-priced too; and he’s constantly listening to his customers and adapting his products in response to their comments, which means that everything suits its intended purpose perfectly. Consequently, it’s hard to pick one product from his range, but as every successful hunter will need a good game bag sooner or later, that’s what we have here. The bag pictured is a rich brown colour, but tan and olive green ones are also available. Either way, they’re made from a rugged canvas outer material, bonded to a waterproof membrane and then to a lighter-weight yet tough lining fabric. Inside this is a stud-in tartan liner bag with a wipe-clean inner face and a similarly hygienic PVC trim around the top. The outer trim and straps are all leather though, and good stuff at that, while all the fittings - the 2” ring at one end, the rivets, the buckles, the clips for the handy waist strap (a great addition to the traditional design), and the slider to adjust the broad, load-spreading shoulder strap - are solid brass. The bag is a generous size as well, yet not over-heavy; and unlike most such bags, which seem to be designed for looks over function, Phil leaves plenty of slack in the net on the front so there’s actually room in it for a decent haul of bunnies, pigeons, etc. It’s made from synthetic mesh too, so it won’t rot.
