Exploding Premium Targets
- Last updated: 11/11/2024
Paper targets are important, and some cardboard and a marker pen can be a cheap and cheerful tool kit for a basic start. However, do some research, and there is actually an incredible array of targets available to us, designed to challenge and entertain in equal measure. Quality printed targets, whether formal roundels or running monsters, can keep us amused for hours, but sometimes novelty targets can really up the ante where airgun plinking is concerned, and the options are many and varied.
Now, if it’s serious fun you’re after, then it’s time I share my findings after being recently introduced to some specialist alternatives.
Quite explosive!
Made by Premium Targets in Great Britain, and distributed by Range Right, my sample product submitted for testing was the Flare 45L, and this is specified as a ‘Loud Exploding Target’. Not knowing quite what to expect, I was wary of shooting them in the garden, and with my local club near Lincoln playing host to horses around the perimeter, that wasn’t an option either. But when a friend said he was paying the Bomber County Shooting Club a visit, I jumped at my chance to evaluate the merchandise and gauge reaction.
The Flare 45L targets come in a neat pack of five and are self-adhesive 45mm metal discs with a pyrotechnic coating and a central red dot. Set up is simple, as you just peel off the paper backing and then press the target firmly into position. Apparently, the targets work best when fixed to a solid metal background, so that’s what I did. Their stickiness is impressive but hit them with a central shot, and that’s the really impressive bit, as there is a bang, flash of light, and a mini explosion in all directions. Set up a series of targets and all take aim at once, with a countdown, and you’ve suddenly got your own Battle of Waterloo! These really worked well and proved incredibly popular. Just take care and stick to the minimum 10 yard distance.
Thanks/apologies
Many thanks to Charlie at the Bomber County Shooting Club for the action shot, and my apologies to him and others who were left contemplating major bulk orders for more of the same. These targets caught me and others by surprise, and they clearly can’t fail to put a smile on the face, livening up any plinking session. Of course, it’s a consideration not to annoy neighbours or use them around livestock in a field, but assuming common sense is exercised along the way, these Exploding Targets represent a real step up, pushing the fun factor and entertainment value to new heights.
Warning
Having finally seen the Flare 45Ls in action, and seen the effect they can have, they should definitely come with a proper warning. Something like: ‘These Exploding Targets are serious fun and seriously addictive’.
