Cluson Master-Lite Supreme
- Last updated: 14/12/2016
As most of us know Cluson Engineering makes some useful gun lights and they seem to come out with new models on a regular basis. Latest is their Master-Lite Supreme; quite a name, so let’s see if it lives up to it?
The system uses Cluson’s tried & tested torch-over-scope mount system, which is a great design. It consists of an all-polymer G-clamp that attaches to the body tube, you have the option here of selecting 1” or 30mm body tube versions.
Ball & Socket
Integral to the base is a fully adjustable, ball & socket joint that is clamped in position (when set) by two thumb screws. The torch mounts into this by a split ring and screw, the whole set up can be moved back/forward, angled and rotated through 200º + to suit your needs.
The torch looks not unlike another modern make of compact on the market and shows the typical, bell-shaped body and long/angled reflector style that is more efficient at projecting the beam out to longer distances. It runs off a 3.7V/2200 maH rechargeable battery, a 240V mains charger is included. Output is 250-lumens from its LED bulb.
The body is chocolate cut for a secure grip and the kit features two tail caps. One is a press ON/OFF type and the other a remote with curly lead for stock-mounting. Different and most pleasing is the finger pad incorporates a click switch, so you don’t have to keep pressure on to stay lit. Also included are a spare tail cap rubber, O-rings, lanyard with snap hook and split ring. The only thing missing is some adhesive, Velcro strips for stock mounting.
Three Hours Useable
Run time is quoted at three and half hours, I got around three of useable light from a full charge. Re-charge takes just over three hours and a red light shows, which turns to green when it’s done. The complete rig with remote switch weighs 13oz and offers a reasonably compact, on-gun package. Given the practical ON/OFF system I found it easier to position the pad on the left of the pistol grip so I could shoot from a vehicle supported or stand unsupported in the normal manner. The generous adjustments means you can tailor the beam direction as you require.
I was expecting to get around 100-yards of shootable light, which would be fine for rimfire and airgun use. Out to 70-yards illumination was more than acceptable with a maximum effective range of around 100 given the conditions. In truth you can’t expect much more than this from systems of this type. But that is more than enough for any airgunner or 22 rimfire users.
Overall a comprehensive and well priced package from the masters of gun lighting systems.
