Fenix TK12 torch

Fenix TK12 torch

I am quiet frankly fed up of lugging a heavy battery and lamp the size of a car head light around in the dark and have been interested for some time in trying out one of the high powered mini lights on the market.

Well Priced

There are a great many to choose from but many with ridiculously high price tags, the average being around the £200 mark. Then I discovered the Fenix TK12 which comes as a complete pack comprising the lamp, batteries, battery charger, rubber scope mount, belt pouch and a filter all for a very reasonable £116. But can this light that is so much lower in price than all its competitors be as good as they are?

Well that is what I set out to discover and was quiet frankly astonished by the TK12s performance. The rechargeable battery with which the light is supplied knocks out a straight two hours of bright light that cuts through the darkness like a shaft of sunlight illuminating all in its path for about 100m. The beam is nice and tight allowing for the precise placement of the light which I find a great advantage when carrying out pest control operations in dark barns, as I like to keep the beam off of the farm stock so that they do not spook.

Long Term Test

story continues below...

I have used the TK12 for about 6 months carrying it constantly on my belt in the very tough nylon pouch that comes with the torch and it gets used every single day, for everything from inspecting the engine bay of a tractor to taking the dogs for a walk in the dark and not once has the torch failed me despite being dropped a couple of times, and despite the appalling weather and its constant use.

The batteries are charged daily and so far - after 180 days of charging - they are still in perfect working order still providing a full 2 hours of bright light. Not only is this torch perfect for lamping rabbits, it is excellent when applied to pest control and would make a very suitable torch for those involved in law enforcement or for soldiers on active service.

The torch is extremely small with a negligible weight and it fits comfortably into the palm of the hand and when shone into a dark room it literally fills it with light. When it comes to shooting the TK12 comes with its own rubber scope mount, which is without doubt one of the most ingenious shooting accessories that I have come across in a very long time. The mount comprises of two simple cups, one that goes around the scope tube, the other being there to receive the TK12. The whole is held in place by very strong Velcro straps meaning that it can be attached to the scope in the blink of an eye. There are no fiddly little screws and no balancing the whole thing together like you have to with metal torch clamps that can be the most infuriating things ever invented. Well I for one will never use a metal torch clamp again now that I have discovered this rubber torch clamp.

Even if you do not buy a TK12 torch, then at least treat yourself to a couple of the rubber torch clamps because they are brilliant - in just 2 seconds they can be fixed onto or removed from your scope or even the rifle’s barrel.

If you think that a rubber clamp held shut by Velcro is not going to be all that secure in the field, then think again - I treat my rig like an agricultural tool and I have not once dislodged the clamp. Not only can the clamp be attached to the scope in the conventional way but it can also be attached to the silencer placing the beam ahead of the scope which I find a most effective set up. The torch is tough dependable and very bright, and the rubber clamp mounting system is simply brilliant.
