Lowa Hunter Boots

Lowa Hunter Boots

Lowa have been making boots for more than 80-years so you would think they’d know a thing or two about what works and what doesn’t. This sentiment is borne out in the model I have been abusing for the last few months - the Hunter, 10” full grain leather, Gore-tex lined, mountain boot.
This piece of engineering for your feet is serious with a capital ‘S’! The sole is a cleated Vibram unit with a variable density mid-sole to enhance the areas where the boot is shock loaded. There is a nylon shank to firm up the sole for rough terrain and help the torsional (sideways) stiffness. This is particularly useful when walking on sloping or uneven ground, providing a level platform on which to stand avoiding the ankle being turned over and pulling the inner or outer calf muscles.

Supportive Yet Flexible
The main body is full-grain, impregnated leather with a heavy rubber rand to protect against rock abrasion. This gives fantastic support yet, due to the clever way the tongue is articulated, does not feel like you’re wearing a ski boot. Supportive yet flexible; the lacing is designed to be non-interfering, allowing the boot to maintain even tension whether under load or on the up step.  This is all clever stuff, giving genuine hardcore walkers and upland stalkers a reliable piece of comfortable equipment they will both appreciate and use for many seasons. On the feet of the casual user I would say these boots are nearly indestructible.
Whatever your pleasure or the weather, there is one very key feature over and above those already mentioned so far that Lowa call their ‘Climate Control System’. In essence air is pushed through the boot by the walking action of the wearer including the mid-sole. As a result an even temperature is maintained throughout, avoiding hot spots that can reduce the efficiency of the Gortex membrane.  As you may imagine all this comes at a price and you won’t get much change from £200. But when you consider what you pay for a pair of leather shoes with none of the technical elements of these boots and a fraction of the durability, they represent serious value for money.
