Musto’s Macnab Shooting Suit
The Macnab Suit is made from a durable polyester mix which is significantly lighter and has improved movement compared to woven cloths traditionally used in shooting clothing. Comprising of a jacket with accompanying breeks, the suit uses high-resolution printed technology to create the illusion of tweed with several notable advantages. The tweed pattern is the perfect camouflage while stalking as it blends in well in the hills. The laminated material is whisper quiet, light, waterproof and breathable, making it perfect for the approach whilst stalking, but equally at home on the smartest game shoot.
The Macnab Suit is named in honour of John Buchan’s novel ‘John Macnab’, which tells a story of two bored Londoners poaching – their aim being to bag a stag, a brace of grouse and a salmon.
Designed for the rough practicalities needed in the Highlands or in the field, the suit is lightweight and durable making it ideal for a long up hill approach. A durable water repellent finish minimises water absorption in the outer material to prevent wetting out, helping to keep the wearer warm whilst lying on damp heather or standing on a rain swept moor.
Fully waterproof with a two-layer adjustable hood, the Macnab Jacket features a synthetic suede lined collar and chin guard, as well as an inner security pocket to keep valuables safe and dry. The jacket also benefits from articulated sleeves which ensure that movement is unrestricted, and reinforced double layer fabric elbows which provide extra durability. The Macnab Breeks have a gusseted Velcro hem adjustment, ensuring a perfect fit.
Available in sizes from Small – XXX Large, the Macnab Jacket costs £225 while the Macnab Breeks are available in waist sizes from 32” – 44” and are priced at £150.
Return of a Classic
The Long Breckland Jacket has been designed for days when the weather is beating down outside and you are torn between staying in front of the fire or braving the weather and spending a day in the field. Providing excellent protection from the elements due to its long length, the jacket is waterproof, windproof, breathable and designed with shooting in mind.
The jacket has a quilted upper body for warmth and micro-fleece lined hand warmer pockets to keep hands warm on cold days. Other sensible features include a two-way adjustable hood to protect the wearer from adverse weather and leg straps attach to the hem to secure the jacket in position for shooters whilst on the peg during high winds. The collar, chin guard and trim are lined with synthetic suede to increase comfort for the wearer.
With the perfect shot in mind, an articulated sleeve design and ‘action back’ ensure that the wearer has unrestricted movement during a shoot. Two external cartridge pockets store your cartridges in a dry environment. The Long Breckland Jacket is also ideally suitable as a country casual option whether spectating, dog walking or travelling to and from work. The Long Breckland Jacket is available in sizes from Small to XXX Large and in either Rich Brown or Navy. The recommended retail price is £225.
Two Pairs of Wellies
Musto have also launched its first collection of technical wellington boots for autumn/winter 2011. Constructed from premium vulcanised natural rubber, the boots have been designed to withstand all of the rigorous weather conditions that the countryside throws at you, keeping feet warm and dry and you on two feet!
The range comprises of two styles of boot: The Holmside Wellington and the Pelton Wellington. The boots are differentiated by fastenings: The Holmside has an adjustable side gusset and the the Pelton features a full length zip and gusset for easy access. The boots are constructed from a vulcanised natural rubber, which not only has an elastic memory to ensure that the boots revert back to their original shape when bent, but does not crack, thereby increasing the life of the boot. A thicker layer of rubber over the toes increases protection from impact.
To keep the wearer warm, the boots are lined in 3mm neoprene which has excellent heat insulation and retention, giving protection from harsh conditions in winter.
The outsole tread is designed to offer a firm grip across a variety of conditions, ranging from soft snow and mud to hard icy ground. A uniquely designed tread stops mud and dirt clogging sole whilst the steel shank provides increased support, essential in reducing tiredness and possibly injury through prolonged over flexing of the foot.
The Holmside Country Wellington (£120) and Pelton Country Wellington (£150) are both Moss coloured and available in sizes from 5 – 12.
