Solid start for the Air Arms Field Target Team in the 2018 BFTA Grand Prix Series

  • The 2018 BFTA Grand Prix season got off to a fantastic start after an intense first round of competition at Redfearns Field Target Club in Barnsley. With a total of 8 Grand Prix shoots across UK this season, competitors were vying for the chance to get some early points on the board.

  • Redfearns is one of the oldest FT clubs around; with many leading FT competitors starting their shooting careers here. The clubs ground is made up of stunning woodland and it’s a beautiful place to spend the day, even when you’re not shooting you can enjoy the picturesque views.

  • Formed in the mid 1980’s, the ever-popular BFTA Grand Prix Series is the highlight of the field target shooting session. Although the weather conditions were perfect, the competition was fierce as usual. However, that didn’t stop team Air Arms finishing the day with solid positions throughout the leaderboard.

  • Field Target legend Andy Calpin posted the joint top score with an impressive 47ex50, which was enough to share 1st place in AA Grade with Mark Bassett. Other stand out performances in AA Grade included Keith Gilyard on 44 and current World Champion Jack Harris who finished with an impressive score of 45, also taking 2nd place in the Silhouette competition.

  • hn Farbrother led the charge for the Air Arms recoiling team with an incredible 43 to take 2nd Place. James Head also took 2nd Place in A Grade with 44 points. On the team front, Air Arms ‘A’ finished over 17 points ahead of their nearest rivals “Die Meister Men”, sitting top of the table after GP1.

  • Overall it was a great start to the BFTA Grand Prix season, but with seven rounds remaining, it’s all still to play for. GP2 took place on Sunday May 13th at the Springfield Shooting Club in Lincolnshire, results to follow shortly.
