Some weapons become legends in their service life and others become iconic images. There are few, like the P08 so-called ‘Luger’ pistol, which become both. This is the history and development of another of those rarities, by coincidence also German, and the author does a splendid job in telling the story.
From the anarchist known as ‘Peter the Painter’ to Winston Churchill, a whole litany of historical figures used the Broomhandle, some of which are mentioned in this work. The pistol is also familiar to viewers of films and TV series, some of which will surprise readers. On the serious side, though, this is a history of a weapon, which spans almost the entire 20th Century. It has been used in all theatres of war, both great and small. The text and photographs are excellent and the diagrams will really please the firearm collector and historian.
